Best Mediterranean destinations for remote work in 2026

Turkey, Greece, Croatia, Montenegro — ranked by the things that actually matter for a workation: connectivity, timezone, cost, and schedule-friendliness.

·2 min read

We operate sailing workations in four Mediterranean countries. Every destination gets pitched equally on our landing pages, but they are not equal — some suit first-time remote workers, some suit teams, some suit couples. This is the blunt version.

Turkey — best overall for a first workation

Turkey is our most popular destination for good reasons. Season is the longest (April–October). Connectivity is the best — 5G reaches most marinas along the Turquoise Coast. On-ground cost is the lowest (a full dinner ashore is €15–€25 per person vs €40–€60 in Croatia or Greece). Visa is painless (visa-free for EU, quick e-visa for most others). The route distances are short so the boat is at anchor by 11:00 most days, leaving the whole afternoon for a second work block or swimming.

Suits: first-time sailors, solo travellers, anyone cost-sensitive, anyone who needs a long window (bookable June-through-September reliably).

Croatia — best for first-time sailors

Croatia is the strongest pick for first-time sailors specifically. The Adriatic is predictable and thunderstorms are rare in high season. 4G covers nearly every populated island. Marina-grade Wi-Fi at Split, Hvar, and Dubrovnik handles heavy workdays. Time zone (CET/CEST) is perfectly aligned with most European remote teams. Since 2023 Croatia is Schengen, so no visa surprises for most travellers.

Suits: European team offsites, couples, anyone nervous about sailing conditions. Downside: on-ground cost is 1.5–2x Turkey.

Greece — best for "I want views but my team is on CET"

The Cyclades are postcard-beautiful in a way Croatia and Turkey are not. The tradeoff is the Meltemi — the northerly wind that blows strongest mid-July to mid-August and reshapes the sailing schedule. We handle it by doing calls on calm mornings at anchor and long crossings early. Connectivity on inhabited islands is solid 4G/LTE. Schengen visa. Time zone is UTC+3, one hour off CET but still easy.

Suits: travellers who care about scenery, second-time Mediterranean sailors, anyone who will not feel cheated by having to plan calls around wind windows.

Montenegro — the "quiet Croatia"

Montenegro is the most underrated destination of the four. Bay of Kotor is UNESCO-listed and as beautiful as anywhere in the Adriatic, but has half the boat traffic of Croatia. Outside Schengen, so visa rules are more relaxed for non-EU travellers. Short distances between stops means more time in the water and less time under sail.

Suits: couples, families, anyone who wants a vacation-first week with work fit around it rather than the other way around.

What to do in winter

If you want to sail in November–March, Mediterranean is closed. Our Thailand routes (Phuket, Phi Phi, Phang Nga Bay) run on the northeast monsoon from November to March with the same team and the same operating standard. See the Thailand destination page for details.
