We run remote-work sailing trips across the Mediterranean and the Andaman Sea, so this list is opinionated — but grounded in actually working from these coasts, not just holidaying on them. We ranked them by what matters with a laptop open: connectivity, season length, cost, visa hassle, and time-zone overlap with European hours.
The short version: Turkey is the best all-rounder and the cheapest. Croatia and Montenegro are easiest for European teams. Greece wins on scenery. Thailand is the winter escape when the Mediterranean closes.
1. Turkey — best all-rounder
- Season: April–October (peak mid-May to mid-October)
- Start hubs: Marmaris, Göcek, Fethiye
- Connectivity: strong coastal 4G/5G plus marina Wi-Fi
- Visa: EU visa-free 90 days; quick e-visa for most others
- Time zone: UTC+3
- Water: 24–27 °C (Jun–Sep)
- From: €1,100 per person per week
The Turquoise Coast has the most developed setup for working from a boat: reliable coverage in the marinas and protected bays, sheltered anchorages for steady morning work, and the easiest marina access here. Routes run from Marmaris to the ruins of Knidos, or through the Göcek–Fethiye marine park. It is also the lowest-cost option, on board and ashore. Best if you want the safest first workation and the most trips to choose from.
2. Greece (Cyclades) — best scenery
- Season: May–October (peak mid-June to mid-September)
- Start hub: Piraeus (Cyclades)
- Connectivity: 4G/LTE on the islands; Starlink for open-sea passages
- Visa: EU free; others a 90-day Schengen
- Time zone: UTC+2/+3 (aligned with CET)
- From: €1,300 per person per week
Hard to beat for views: a Cyclades route runs from Kea down to Santorini through islands you cannot reach by ferry. One thing to plan around is the Meltemi, the northerly wind strongest from mid-July to mid-August — we keep calls to the calm mornings at anchor and schedule longer crossings early. Best if you want the iconic Aegean and do not mind planning around the wind.
3. Croatia (Dalmatia) — best for European teams and first-timers
- Season: May–September
- Start hub: Split (15 minutes from the airport)
- Connectivity: 4G on nearly every island; marina Wi-Fi in Split, Hvar, Dubrovnik
- Visa: Schengen (Croatia joined in 2023)
- Time zone: UTC+1/+2 (CET/CEST)
- On-ground spend: roughly €40–€80 a day
- From: €1,300 per person per week
The Adriatic is predictable and thunderstorms are rare in high season, which makes Croatia the gentlest place to start. The Dalmatian coast packs UNESCO old towns and the Kornati island park into a week, and the CET time zone means no awkward call hours for European colleagues. Best if it is a first team trip or everyone works EU hours.
4. Montenegro (Adriatic) — best for a relaxed or family week
- Season: May–October
- Start hub: Tivat (Porto Montenegro)
- Connectivity: 4G along the coast; marina Wi-Fi at Porto Montenegro
- Visa: visa-free 30–90 days for most
- Time zone: UTC+1/+2 (CET/CEST)
- Water: 22–26 °C (Jun–Sep)
- From: €1,300 per person per week
The quieter neighbour to Croatia: short 2–3 hour hops between anchorages leave long afternoons for swimming and old towns, which makes it the most relaxed option and the friendliest for families. The route circles the Bay of Kotor, Perast, Sveti Stefan and the long beach at Ulcinj. Best if you want an easy rhythm, or you are bringing partners and kids.
5. Thailand (Andaman Sea) — best winter escape
- Season: November–March
- Start hub: Phuket
- Connectivity: strong 4G near the islands; Starlink for open-sea crossings
- Visa: visa-free 30–60 days for most
- Time zone: UTC+7 (mornings free, afternoons for EU calls)
- Water: 28–32 °C year-round
- From: €1,300 per person per week
When the Mediterranean closes, the Andaman opens. The northeast monsoon keeps it calm and dry, the water is the warmest of any destination here, and the limestone karsts of Phang Nga Bay and Maya Bay are unreal. The UTC+7 offset suits a split day — diving in the morning, European calls in the afternoon. Best if you want to keep sailing through winter, or you are based near Asia.
How to choose
- European team, easy call hours: Croatia or Montenegro (CET).
- First time on a boat: Croatia or Montenegro — calm, short legs.
- Best value and longest season: Turkey.
- Travelling in winter: Thailand.
- Scenery above all: Greece (plan around the Meltemi).
We run trips on all five — Turkey has open dates now; the others run on request. If you would rather have the boat, captain, and route handled for one price, that is the whole idea.
